America today

732. Kolumne

Can all my visions, all my dreams
be thus destroyed, America?
I love you still, and yet it seems
a love so deeply stooped in pain
with naught but anguish to remain
to spell your name, America.

For all thy promise, all thy fame
a vale of tears, America!
I dreamt your dream, and yet I came
to know but visions doomed to die
in blood and violence to belie
all hope of love, America.

As all thy beauty, all thy light
has ceased to be, America,
I love you still, and yet tonight
the dream my heart cannot disown
lies heavy as a weighted stone
upon your name, America.

Okay, ich setze das Gedicht auch als neuen Text von mir auf meine Seite.
