NIGHTWALKER

Chapter 1
Stranded (PART 1)

It was a cold night. It was storming and raining very hard. Julius was still packing his things for tomorrow's class trip.
"Julius, please go to sleep soon! You have to get up very early tomorrow! All right?" said his father. "Lucien will take you to the airport afterwards, so please set an alarm." ,his father added. Soon after, Julius went to sleep. At least he tried, because his fear of flying made it difficult for him to fall asleep. But in the end he succeeded. The next morning he got up at 4:30, had breakfast with his father and Lucien and his father were already at the door. They were late, so they had to hurry on the way to the airport. Everywhere they could see branches or even whole trees uprooted. "Last night's storm left a lot of marks." Lucien said. "I hope your flight won't be delayed because of it. Not that you won't be able to take off for a few hours or so because of the cleanup at the airport." Laughed Rene, Lucien's father. "Wow... That makes me feel so much better." Julius said with a sarcastic undertone. "You and airplanes will never be friends," grinned Lucien. When they finally arrived at the airport, Mr. Giorgio, Julius and Lucien's class teacher, was already waving at them. Moreover, he pointed his index finger at his watch shouted, "Hurry up a bit! You're the last ones!" Everyone took out their backpacks and they quickly ran to the rest of the class. "Oh man!.. We really are the last ones" ,grumbled Julius. "Then it's business as usual." ,replied Lucien. "All right. Now that we are complete we can board. After all, boarding started a few minutes ago. If anyone still needs to go to the bathroom and doesn't want to go on the plane they can still do so, but as soon as possible." ,said Mr. Giorgio while handing each student their plane ticket. "Let's do another quick one before we board." ,whispered Julius to Lucien. Can't you go on the plane I don't want to be last again. Nobody's going to the bathroom again. " replied Lucien. "Yeah, sorry, but I haven't been home and I'm definitely not going on the plane. They have a really bad air vent in the toilet. If I take a shit in there it stinks so bad that the next person who has to go to the toilet needs a gas mask." Julius replied again rather sarcastically. "Alright but we'll be quick." Said Lucien a little annoyed. After they were done the two boys also entered the plane as the last passengers. "Well is your fear of flying kicking in again?" Lucien asked. "You can say that again." Julius said in a slightly anxious voice. "Dear passengers, thank you very much for choosing to fly with European Airlines. We now ask all guests to fasten their seatbelts tightly, because we are about to take off in a few minutes. The entire crew wishes you a pleasant flight." A voice spoke from the cabin's loudspeakers. Lucien then turned to Julius and said in a reassuring voice: "Don't worry! The probability of crashing with a plane is extremely low. It would even be more likely to win the lottery." Julius replied, "Yeah you can talk. You fly every year and you've never had a fear of flying. And even winning the lottery, while unlikely, is still possible." Lucien just rolled his eyes and leaned his seat way back. "I'm going to sleep now. I don't care what you do but just don't wake me up. Got it? ",Lucien said while closing his eyes and trying to fall asleep. But all of a sudden a loud voice rang out from the row of seats behind them: "Hey you fatso! Don't slide so far back with your seat! "It was Bill, the meanest and probably also the stupidest student of the year. Lucien pulled his seat forward again and tried to fall asleep once more. Meanwhile, Julius was looking out the window, watching everything around the plane go by faster and faster. Now he closed his eyes too, but not to sleep but to suppress his fear. It became jerky and everything vibrated strongly. But then everything was quiet again. Julius looked out the window again and now he saw clouds. "The plane is now in the air. Please keep your seat belt fastened until the indicator above you goes out. Then you can move freely. Have a pleasant flight!" said another voice over the loudspeakers. Suddenly a lady tapped Julius on the shoulder and asked: "Would you like something to drink or eat?" "No, no thanks. I don't need anything right now." ,Julius quickly replied in a somewhat shaky voice. But no sooner did the lady move on to the next passenger than a deafening hum suddenly began. It came from outside. Julius immediately looked out of the window, but he could see nothing. No burning engine, no cracks or holes in the wing. Just nothing. It seemed as if the noise came from nowhere. But Julius could think to the end, there began already again the strong vibrating and jerking. But this time it was much stronger than before. A flight attendant ran through the aisle and shouted: "This is strong turbulence. Hold on tight and make sure you stay strapped in!" With a pale face, Julius clung to his armrests with both arms. Lucien, who had also woken up by now, did the same. He tightened his seatbelt a tiny bit more also clinging to his armrests. As Julius looked through the plane, he was startled to see a hole in the middle of the floor. "The floor has been ripped open by something." he thought. Lucien noticed the hole too and they both looked at each other with totally pale faces. But then the plane began to break apart. Parts of the plane, suitcases and even people flew wildly around. Julius closed his eyes and prayed to God, "If this is really the end now, thank you for this short but beautiful life." One last loud crash (...) [To be continued]
