Vorwort
In the course of police interrogations there can appear numerous forms of linguistic corruption. In some case it might be called tricky how questions and sentences are formulated to lead a delinquent or a witness up the garden path. But these tricky questions can still be fair and according to the rules. In other instances when it comes to lies, pressure, intimidations, aggressions, oppression, threatening or even violence it can no longer be called fair. In these case we are confronted with police criminality. The worst case would be threatening violence and finally violence itself. This can even be defined as torture. There are numerous researches about problematic police-speak and questioning methods (Coulthart, M.) which might not be oriented towards the case or the sake of the respondant but towards gaining as much information with the help of interrogation techniques. These techniques can even be aimed on breaking the personality and urging a confession. There might be a whole catalogue of questions which can be applied and put the interviewee under pressure. Topics might be gender, sexuality, political stances, loyalty towards the government or the police, questions about the family, believes, religion, pacifist stances, fandom, education and many other parameters.
As soon as the interrogator uses such catalogued questions only to work the list down, it can be very harmful and disrespectful for the resondent to the questions. Later it might be difficult to decide whether unfair questioning methods were applied as soon as a final statement is produced which gives no or unclear proof of devious questioning methods. Only experts might find some hints for that.
In the end the respondent has to sign the statement and might still feel intimidated. All interrogation techniques which are intended to hurt or harm the respondent can be called linguistically corrupt. Stements produced this way have to be declared illegal and of no use infront of a court.
When these interrogation techniques are even computer assisted while a focus is set on influencing the emotions and the mood of the respondent, then it is even worse and unacceptable. In many cases the respondent has got an alienation effect while he does not realize where the questions come from. An interrogation has to be free of pressure, violence and intimidations. Otherwise it is legally not relevant.
