Vorwort
Basically, identity theft and pseudonymism are two different fields though there might be some similarities. It’s more than a trend on the internet to use profile names, handles, pseudonyms, varying facebook names, invented phantasy names, slightly changed original names, political names, puns based on original names and other naming strategies to introduce and promote oneself or a fake person. Semantically these naming strategies try to give hints about one’s background, believes, political opinions, protest stances or they try to be funny, threatening or creative. This is the first stage of linguistic corruption though it is mostly not done to harm or intimidate others. As soon as you pretend to be another person or try to give a false statement about yourself in order to cheat or deceit others it is truely a form of linguistic corruption. There can always be a contact line to identity theft. Identity theft comes into being when you exploit the persona of a different person to put yourself in a better position or to hide your real name and aims. This is often due for criminals who want to wrong others, get data or steal money. Identity theft might start with an e-mail address with the name of another person and a fake letterhead with a wrong address and a wrong company name. This is especially relevant for fake companies which do not exist and fake person names in order to perform phishing, commit fraud or offer irregular work contracts. There are numerous other reasons.
